“Culture exists on both an individual and a social level, being concerned with what particular individuals think, learn and do and also with what a society considers important and meaningful” (Stephens, 2009:26). As Western-centric values and culture form the foundations of international schools, how does an international school education affect the process of identity creation in students attending these schools and what impact, if any, does this have on student identity? This presentation will explore the factors that influence identity creation and the role of education as a value-laden change agent.
